Vichy

Two postcards from Vichy. Vichy is a spa town and the baths have been a popular destination since the 17th century. These two could almost be landscape paintings.

I'd keep these!

If I had the choice, this is a pair of postcards that I would keep for myself. I love the way in which they've been coloured. Such a pretty little girl too.

Lady in a green dress

I sent this postcard as a birthday card to someone. I love the way that the dress sweeps round. I wonder what colour it was in real life.

Cookery lesson

Not a postcard but lithography, probably included as a gift within a packet. This is N°. 3: Salt and Pepper… serious question. The colours on Lithographies are always beautiful and stand the test of time. This is the prettiest of 4 that I have to sell as a set. It dates from around 1900 as far as I can tell.

The Garden Grill Room

A lovely postcard from the famous postcard publishers; Tuck’s. This one is of The Garden Grill Room at the May Fair Hotel in London. The card has a texture that makes it appear to be an oil painting. It seems that this postcard was quite popular. The May Fair is still there and was recently modernised. Any one for tea?

A view of La Rochelle

All you have to do is substitute the horses and carts for cars and you would see that nothing has changed over the last 100 years. The shops are very different though, most of them today are bars or (real)estate agents.

The silk merchant

I love the colours of this postcard. When I first saw it I wondered how I could describe it. I don’t read Armenian. I imagine this is a merchant selling silks to a well to do lady. The card is dated 1900. There are a few marks on it and the bottom left hand corner is slightly bent. If I live to be 109 years old I hope that I stay in as good condition as this card!

A concert

This is a postcard of a concert in Blois which is another beautiful French town. I was really attracted to this card because of the way it’s coloured. Some colouring wasn’t so good, very basic and bright, blue sky, green grass, red lips etc. Please click on the card to see it in more detail.
