The silk merchant

I love the colours of this postcard. When I first saw it I wondered how I could describe it. I don’t read Armenian. I imagine this is a merchant selling silks to a well to do lady. The card is dated 1900. There are a few marks on it and the bottom left hand corner is slightly bent. If I live to be 109 years old I hope that I stay in as good condition as this card!

Beautiful beautiful card! Knowing that it predates the just commemorated massacre, I wonder how/if that figures into the history it's seen? Sometimes I wish things had their own voice!

Very nice picture . I tried reading it but couldn't. Its not written in Armenian it must be a mix of russian ukrainian and polish or something. It is from a sister to a sister. Something about sending best wishes.

Isobel: It's remarkable how some cards survive. The colours seem to have stood the test of time too.

Alan: Our house would be very noisy if the postcards could talk! Even this afternoon I came across one that brought a lump to my throat.

A Lady's Life: Thank you for trying to decipher it for me. Looks like it will reamin a secret for a while longer...
