Les Arceaux

As soon as I saw this postcard I thought of Salvador Dali. The twisted trees and the arches stretching into the distance I suppose. I don’t have a date for this card. Here are some more views of Montpellier. Can you spot ‘les Arceaux’?

I'm assuming 'les arceaux' means the arches?

I think it is amazing to see this. Imagine that in those days, they did not have all these fancy machines to build something. It is like the Saint Gotthard tunnel. Built over 100 years ago and around 20 kilometers long. They started to dig from each side and when the met in the middle, they were 10 centimeters off.

Peter: Some of the bridges and arches built in the past were incredible. I think that a lot of them will last even longer than the ones we are building today.

Ve recorded the meeting of the English and French tunnel makers when they met below the channel. Unfortunately it's on video and we havn't got a video player now.
