A view of Lainville

 

Lainville-en-Vexin is a village not far from Paris,  I think this is a charming way to present a view of the village.  If you look closely at the carriage, you'll see a bicycle hidden behind.  I like to think that the photographer perhaps stopped the carriage and asked if they would pose for a photograph,  

Bessé-les-Echelles

I think that this postcard is the photographer’s idea of a joke. There is no such place as Bessé-les-Echelles (Echelle = ladder), the village is called Bessé-sur-Braye. Each house has a ladder leading to the upper window. I wonder why. Were the houses built without stairs to the upper floor? I looked around on Google earth and although I found some houses of similar architecture; I didn’t find this particular row.

Through the tunnel

This view of the Alps through the tunnel is almost magical. It’s quite common to see this postcard, but not often with a car in the centre. I see that the driver is leaning over looking for something; a marker so that the car is in the right position for the photo perhaps?

A lesson in focus

This postcard is possibly over 110 years old. As well as a pleasant picture which drew my eye, is the clarity of detail from the shadow of the tree on the ground to the clock on the church. (It was half past two). I wonder what the gentleman would make of being enlarged and put for everyone to see on a blog?

Les Arceaux

As soon as I saw this postcard I thought of Salvador Dali. The twisted trees and the arches stretching into the distance I suppose. I don’t have a date for this card. Here are some more views of Montpellier. Can you spot ‘les Arceaux’?
