Anyone for Ice-cream?

It’s comforting to know that even 100 years ago you could find some refreshment on a hot day. The enlargement shows the word ‘Sorbets’ on the side of the motorized carriage.

What a marvellous street scene, a more human scene than today perhaps...

Wow! Is that ever neat! I never would have thought they could keep it cold enough. But I guess some technology is older than we think. I love the card.

I often wondered how they kept things cold in the olden days.

Imagine a hot day and wearing those clothes - you'd need a sorbet. I wonder if the van also played a music box like modern ice cream vans to announce its arrival?

Caroline: Complete with litter I notice! No rushing around, especially in the heat.

Isobel and A Lady's Life: Ice was sold in huge blocks and big houses in the UK had Ice houses, places underground where ice could be kept for reasonably long periods.

some history;

Doris: Having to wear such clothes on hot days is the reason why I'm not going time-travelling!
