Sapeurs Pompiers de Paris

These are examples of the different uniforms Parisian fire-fighters would have worn around 1900. In France the fire service deal with all emergencies. Though I’m still wondering about the one with the gun…

As always click on the image to get a better view.

Hi Angie ~ The one with the gun and all the others looking in slightly different directions (and the rope) make the card kind of surreal and also rather funny.

I so missed your postcards!
Hello my friend! Long time no see. It has almost been a year since I have blogged. Stopping by to say hello and get my feet wet again with blogging. Sure missed my visits with you.
Take care,
Titania

Henri: I image they'd rather have been out fighting a fire than having their photograph taken.

Titania: Welcome back! You've been missed too.

Could the gun be a quick way of getting cats out of trees?

On a visit to france about seven years ago there in the house was a small bucket of the best tasting clear honey I have ever tasted. The house which they looked after for a relation had a colony of bees move into the space between the shutters and the windows, the gallant pompiers swept into action to sort it out and received a third of the honey and the owned were left the remaining third.

Wonder which in the phoot has the special bee keeping badge...

I clicked on the picture before reading your words and indeed the gun is most curious and the role of it for a firefighter!

Caroline: You make them sound like boy scouts! I agree, the gun would very quickly sort out cats in trees.

I was hoping that the wasps nest above our garage window would turn out to be bees. Unfortunately fire fighters don't do private wasp nests any more. The pest control man came instead.
