The (very) old house

This house was built in the 13th century, 700 years later a postcard was made of it and just over a hundred years after that the house appears on my blog! I couldn’t find any trace of the house today, although the tourist office looks as if it perhaps could have been….

It reminds me of a mushroom somehow.

When they built that house, they never could imagine computers and internet and the virtual image of that house! Something about its style keeps its appeal thru centuries! Just found your blog, love the theme.

That upper floor must have been an addition...and yes, it does look like a mushroom. Amazing that it stayed in tact for 700 years!!

In Kosovo you find houses that look (slightly) similar.

Wow! Here in St. Augustine we are proud of our fort that dates from 1565. This place beats it age wise by quite a bit. It's a shame it isn't around now. I love curious looking houses.

I agree! It sure does look like a giant mushroom. I wonder if there is a young girl named Alice that lives there? :o)

I can only imagine trying to get that through a local zoning board/planning commission now!

Thank you for this one, really brightened my day!

Joanne: Thank you for your comment. it is amazing , isn't it?

Cube; yep.

Piscean: I'm not sure it was, a lot of old houses are similar in style but not as exaggerated on top.

Peter: I will Google and have a look.

Ken: I'll try to find some cards of other strange houses. A lot was destroyed during the wars.

Titania: I hadn't thought of that one. Perhaps there was.

Alan: They just built. I wonder how many houses keeled over!

I'd love to go back in time and watch it being built (a different world)

Henry: I remember being taught about how the black and white Tudor houses were built when I was at school. I think if I could travel back in time it would be the day to day things I would like to witness

I couldn't agree more Angie ~ I look at old photographs and the people in them and I try to imagine what their lives would have been - and been like.

Layer upon layer of humanity - like the seasons

Henry: You just have to leave me in a waiting room with people coming in and out and my imagination starts building lives for them...

How very interesting! It does look like a mushroom. I wonder what it looked like inside?

Dana: thank you for visiting. From the very old houses where I come from you would probably have to take care not to hit your head on the doorways. When I was very small we lived in a house built in 1642 my mum says that it was draghty, dirty and the toilet was a little hut in thegarden

Anji,
I found this post and with it your blog while I was looking for vintage pictures. I love this picture and the shape of this building - it's so unusual! Thanks for this post!
