Quimperlé
A typical Breton town, probably before the First World War. Notice that the man is wearing traditional costume. The shop sells hardware. Here is more or less the same view today, the shop appears to be boarded up.
OH wow!! That is so cool that you found the exact place today. History, when you can see it like that, really fascinates me. Happy Feast day, Anji! We still celebrate the Saints that the children are named after on their feast day. =) PS: Do you collect any postcards or just really old ones? I sometimes come across beautiful postcards, many from Switzerland, from my grandmother. Would you like me to send them to you, once I make a collection?
Caroline: I wonder if people felt that way at the time...
A Lady's life: i think that there would have been advantages and disadvantages. Those houses would have been draughty and cold in winter by our standards
Elisa: Yes, it's real history about real people. Thank you for the good wishes. We don't have a very big collection now. My business is selling vintage postcards - mainly French ones. most of the ones you see on this blog are for sale or have been sold. I think that you should keep the cards from your grandmother for your children. Thank you for the offer anyway.

Somehow in the past they had a natural way to make their environment beautiful and interesting and now we effortlessly do the opposite...
