Submarine

La Rochelle also had a submarine base. Built during world war II, Part of Raiders of the lost ark was filmed there in 1981. The port of ‘La Pallice’ as it is known was originally built in 1890. As you can see from this postcard, submarines were around the port even during WWI.

Happy New Year !Anji
We had one similar from Russia in
New Westminster.
It was an old one and people were allowed to board it.
History in post cards.

Submarines were even used in the 1860's in the Civil War in the US!

Yep, DB is right! I LOVE subs. Spent two weeks on one in the 80s, and did several three day trips on one. Gets tight at first, but you get use to it after a while.

Aladyslife: Happy New Year; Idon't know If I'd like to board one.

DB: I must look into the history of submarines

Don: I'll have to look out some more postcards. Submarines were made quite close to here too and we have some great images, though not of the construction of them.

Anji it's very small in there. I don;t know how they can stay under water without air I think I'd feel suffocated. They'd have to throw me out lol
