Milk anyone?

This card is from Vichy and is in excellent condition. Some of the most beautful cards are from Vichy but they are quite common as it was a popular spa at the beginning of the 20th century.

Just imagine milk being delivered this way. I wonder what kept it from spoiling. Did they keep ice blocks nearby? You can tell I am still a whipper snapper. :o)

Titania: No, I don't think they used ice. We were made to drink milk at school in the 60s which had been left on the school doorstep in the sun - it was horrible. Today it has to be kept refrigerated. Warm milk straight fron the cow is much nicer.

Thank you for your comments I do appreciate them!

And, by my understanding, Vichy is still a rather popular spa resort among the French (in fact, the state Social Security system in France will help cover medically-prescribed spa treatments under certain conditions).

iludium phosdex: You are right on both counts. I have a friend who was sent off to a spa for health reasons; She really felt much better all round afterwards; Much better than taking medicines.
